About The Jetsuns
The Jetsuns
At the heart of the music of The Jetsuns is the voice of Joanne Louise and her emotive guitar based songs,
embellished by the velvet tones of Lewis Fielding on bass and eclectic guitar on
selected songs.
Since childhood Joanne Louise like many others had never felt she was in the right place.
As she grew up in Liverpool, England, she could not comprehend the inequality and injustice that many people on the earth endured. She could never understand war and realised from a very young age that violence was totally primitive and a useless bloody exercise that she later learned benefited only the few.
Joanne began her music career playing the vibrant
Liverpool music scene of the late 80’s early 90’s.
Impelled to write her own material, she eventually moved to London and recorded a mini album of her songs
‘Love The Sea is Blue’ with bassist Nick Cohen (Incognito, Massive Attack, Eurythmics) and featuring percussionist/drummer Preston Heyman (Kate Bush).
Joanne was described by Time Out as ‘one of Londons foremost up and coming songbirds…’ She went underground and influenced by Reggae, Soul, Jazz and World music she continued to develop her sound plus writing, performing, busking and recording, all whilst bringing up her young son.
Joanne’s inspiration has come from the influence of many diverse artists from
Peter Gabriel to Bob Marley, John Lennon to Lauren Hill.
Always drawn to conscious writers JL began her own journey of spirit
around the time when she read David Ickes first book The Truth Vibrations.
Undergoing a transformation that many have experienced within the past two decades,
which is an awakening to the true nature of our existence.
She realised within a short time that her mission was to express this knowledge in her musical work, this came naturally and fluently as she channeled words and melody.
Several years ago in exchange for some session work, she was given free studio time and recorded a demo with just guitar, vocals and percussion. On her way to busk in Brighton, Joanne Louise met a stranger on the train, he listened to her demo and then offered her some cash to kick start the recording of ‘The Here & Now’.
Lewis Fielding is a proffessional blues guitarist, he grew up in Stirling, Scotland and moved to London in ‘94, he’s worked with Clarence Tex Walker and blues legend Big Joe Turner, supporting the great BB King at the Royal Albert Hall.
He currently plays with Little George Sueref and Jerimiah Marques.
Lewis met Joanne Louise at an Arts Council event in North London a few years ago,
introduced by a mutual friend of theirs, sculptor Mark Selby.
Seven months later they met up again, discovered they had a spiritual link
and became companions.
Joanne had begun recording the album, and was looking for a bass player.
Lewis up to now had avoided working on Joanne’s material but ended up jamming bass lines (initially on guitar) on a couple of her recorded tracks, he discovered he was loving it and so was she.
Lewis’s enthusiasm extended to slide guitar and acoustic, the affinity was undeniable.
During the recording of ‘The Here & Now’ The Jetsuns ‘ have performed at several London venues such as Viva-Viva (N8),
The Washington (Havistock Hill) and Camden’s Jazz Cafe.
Joining The Jetsuns live is Sarah Wackett, flautist, backing vocalist and later percussionist/drummer, Sarah had been working with Joanne Louise for a year prior to the formation of ‘The Jetsuns’, she features on the album and contributes to the vibrant positive energy created whenever they all perform together.
